Own The Runway: Tips For Putting On A Fabulous Fashion Show

Say you’re an aspiring fashion designer, or a college student majoring in fashion design. If you have designed your very own clothing line, and you want people to see it, but you don’t have enough networking connections to put on a professional-level fashion show, it is up to you to come up with some creative and thrifty way to showcase your designs. Hosting your own amateur fashion show is a great way for a new designer to gain exposure, and to take some seriously impressive initiative. Thankfully, our fashion school experts have compiled a list of tips for putting on a fabulous fashion show, no matter what amount of money or connections you’re working with.

Firstly, you have to draw up a budget for your show. Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend, you still have to figure out how to wisely spend the little you’ve got for optimal results. One good first step is to try and find some sponsors. If you’re a student and your parents are graciously helping you out with your tuition, they might be in a good position to sponsor your fashion show as well. Sponsors can also donate things like a venue or concessions in lieu of money. It all ends up helping.

Of course, your fashion show must have a theme. Hopefully, your designs will be enough to draw inspiration for a theme. Pick one that represents the emotions conveyed in your look. Then, decorate accordingly. You can buy cheap light fixtures and fabrics to create mood lighting and decoration. You can also use other cheap decorating methods like spray paint, flowers, wooden boards, old tires and other junkyard finds to create a set that will enhance your designs. Finally, choose music for the show that also fits with your overall theme.

Next, you need to find a venue to host your show. Big-budget fashion shows put on by high-end designers usually choose a trendy location, like a sophisticated theater or a club. However, when putting on your own, smaller fashion show, the more creative you can get with the venue, the better your show will be. If the weather permits, look for an outdoor venue, like an unused bandstand in a park, or a particularly, well-lit city alleyway. Make sure you clear it with a manager, but chances are you’ll be able to use a public space for free, or very little cost.

Once all the rest is arranged, you will need to send out invitations in order to get the word out about your show. Invitations can also be made cheaply out of recycled materials and a little bit of paint or markers. Make sure your invitations list all the vital details, like the name of the event, the designer’s name, the date and the location, but keep them a little bit elusive as well. That way, you will entice people into coming, because they’ll want to learn more about the mysteriously cool invitation they’ve received.

Now you have an amateur fashion show all queued up! But the real magic is up to you, and the love and creativity you pour into your own designs.

The Advantages of Attending a Fashion Show

For some people a great time means having a party, then for others it is just being themselves and watching the latest movie or reading a book that they like. Even so, for others, there specific idea of having fun is going to a fashion show.

It is often found to be true that you might find yourself ending up being a fashion show addict after just one show. A fashion show is not just simply numerous hours of sitting and watching attractive woman walk down the catwalk in extreme outfits. It is a great deal more fun than that. You even have the opportunity to get a lot out of the show as well.

Latest News In Fashion

Clearly, if you go to a fashion show, you will get to view the latest fashions. This can assist you, even if you’re not a fashion sellout. This can help you out by giving you an idea of what particular fashion is in at the moment. Even though you may not be particularly interested in what everyone is wearing, you might be inspired to update your wardrobe just a little bit more or find some idea for a fashion that is uniquely your own.

Additionally, a fashion show can provide good entertainment when you find that the latest fashion is, well, hideous. How much fun do you think it will be to have a good laugh with your family and friends about some model who appeared wearing a lion mask and a tail when you get back home?

Goodie Bags

Even though not all fashion shows provide them, some fashion shows give out goodie bags to their attendees. Who doesn’t like free stuff? Even though you may not like all the things that goodie bag has in it, you can re-gifted at some later point to someone who you know will like it. The bigger and better the name of the fashion show, the bigger and better the goodie bag they will hand out.

Meeting People

Fashion shows typically end up being excellent social gatherings. First off, you might be able to make some new friends. You might realize that your new best friend was sitting right next to you at a fashion show admiring the same male or female model (as the case may be) that you were. Even better than that, you might meet some important people.

I am not just speaking about the beautiful models, fashion designers, or guest appearances by celebrities. I am referring to important people who could quite possibly shape your career. For example, if you’ve been trying to break into journalism. There might just be a newspaper editor reporting at the show. Making a social connection with them could give you a jump start into a possible job.

Going to a fashion show might not be your idea of fun or your ‘cup of tea’ as the saying goes. Nevertheless, everyone should at least go to one. You might find a new trend you would like to try out, meet someone that is life-changing, or even realized your newfound love of fashion.

If you end up not enjoying the show, you can always head back home and vow to never go to one again. Regardless, you’ll have some type of funny story to share later in life and now you will not be able to say that you have never seen one before.

Men’s Magic Fashion Show: What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas

Who, What, Where?

February 14th of 2011 wasn’t just for Valentine’s day this year, but for fashion, too-the “Magic” fashion show at the Convention Center in Vegas started from February 14th and lasted until the 16th. Fashion shows are always thought of a glamorous event, mostly for women. Honestly, the only men’s fashion shows are stereotypically more for the brands names than the customers, unless you count celebrities. The Average Joe has no need for a fashion show, right? That’s what Magic is here for

Magical Magic

Magic is international fashion; for the broadest spectrum of designs, designers, and forms of fashion-from coats to shoes-on an international, industrial level, think of Magic, because it’s Magic that host buyers as well as sellers from across the world for not just women’s fashion, but men’s and even children’s to boot. This year in Vegas, the fashion show revolves around nine “boutiques” to showcase all of fashion to include accessories as well as apparel: STREET Unlimited, FN PLATFORM, PREMIUM, S.L.A.T.E., POOLTRADESHOW, SOURCING, WWDMAGIC, and of course MENSWEAR.

Vegas 2011

The Vegas 2011 Magic show is meant for everyone, which is important for men-we men don’t often have a reason, or get a chance to have a reason, to go to a fancy-shmancy fashion show, because, again, it’s often for high end female celebs. The Magic show in Vegas this year is targeting a large spectrum of fashion, and so businesses are even encouraged to come, like textile technology importers and exporters, general garment manufacturers, embroiderers, and businesses revolving around accessories, textile materials, trimmings, and laundries. Don’t forget, the general public-including men-are also targeted, so fellas, enjoy.

Men’s Fashion

Talk is cheap-is the international show in Vegas of 2011 really for men? Sure, and here’s some proof-shoes. In one of the previews given to the public via blogs is a sneak peek into the upcoming shoe collection meant just for men, with brands ranging from Puma, a more Everyman kind of a brand, to Lacoste, a brand for the more accomplished men with just as much extra spending money as an eye for style.

Shoes were actually so highly anticipated as a theme to men’s fashion that the entire first day of the Vegas fashion show was, you guess it-shoes. What the 2011 Vegas Magic fashion show proved was two major things-sneaker hybrids are only gaining momentum and are here to stay, and boots are the biggest thing since the sneaker itself.

When it came to sneaker hybrids, the most popular were boat shoe hybrids, or sneakers where the laces are a little thicker, a little more vibrant yet not overly colorful, and some excess. Stay tuned for more information on the Vegas show with Mens underwear and swimwear.

Fashion Show Events

A fashion show is an event put on by a fashion designer to showcase his or her upcoming line of clothing. The first American fashion show likely took place in 1903 in the New York City store Ehrlich Brothers. American retailers imported the concept of the fashion show in the early 1900s.

Fashion

Featuring runway garments from the spring and fall/winter collections of ten influential couturiers and designers, the exhibition explores the ideas and inspirations motivating Paris fashion today, and why, in an age of globalization and instantaneous communication, this venerable city remains the fashion capital. The city has been a magnet for stylish men and women since the seventeenth century, but the French fashion industry has evolved considerably over the centuries and never more than in the last few years.

Recent assessments of the current state of Paris fashion have varied widely, with some pundits announcing its death, and others claiming that it is closer to fine art than ever before. By using fashion, a medium which has always been associated with self-expression and personal identity, these designers seek to demonstrate how the use (or misuse) of technology and its modes of production have the power to stimulate, delight, and inspire in ways as yet untapped in the fashion world. In the 1800s, “fashion parades” periodically took place in Paris couture salons.

The first American fashion show likely took place in 1903 in the New York City store Ehrlich Brothers. By 1910, large department stores such as Wanamaker’s in New York City and Philadelphia were also staging fashion shows. By the 1920s, retailers across the United States held fashion shows. In the 1970s and 1980s, American designers began to hold their own fashion shows in private spaces apart from such retailers.

Models

Models in a fashion show have to change their clothes all the time to present new items to the public. Models are supposed to influence us in a positive way. Models strutting catwalks at London Fashion Week should provide a certificate attesting their good health, but there should be no outright ban on wafer-thin women, the British Fashion Council said on Friday. Spain and Italy have recommended banning models with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18. “We favor the alternative approach of promoting good health based on medical assessments of models participating in London Fashion Week,” it said.

The report acknowledged there was a problem with eating disorders among models and recommended a health education and awareness programme should be set up urgently. “During the investigation, evidence of the vulnerability of women in the modeling progression was startling and models are at high risk of eating disorders,” said Denise Kingsmill, chair of the inquiry.

In a typical fashion show, models walk the runway dressed in the clothing created by the designer. Because the topic of fashion shows remains to find its historian, the earliest history of fashion shows remains obscure. Too many adolescent girls decide early on that they need to be “thin” like the models in order to be “pretty” when really they just need to keep themselves healthy.
